Small, daily routines make the biggest difference to how much children enjoy reading.
Children who read for pleasure do better across every subject. Here are five simple habits families can start this week.
1. Read together every day
Ten minutes before bed is enough. Take turns reading pages aloud.
2. Let children choose
Comics, science books and stories all count. Choice builds motivation.
3. Make books easy to reach
Keep a small basket of books in the living room, not just the bedroom.
4. Talk about what you read
Ask what they think will happen next, or which character they liked best.
5. Visit the library
Our school library is open to students every day. Ask your child's class teacher about borrowing.
